Drivers: New ANDROID application from Global Mobile Alert (http://www.gma4.com) warns drivers of approaching traffic lights, school zones and railroad crossings.

It is a simple, life saving application that can and should be deployed today.”

What do the former managing director of the NTSB, millions of parents and Demetrius Thompson have in common? The desire to saves lives while driving!

Global Mobile Alert-ACTIVATE IT™ (GMA) (http://www.gma4.com) is the world's first location-based service platform that alerts drivers upon approaching signaled intersections, school zones and railroad crossings. The product offers a practical solution to distracted drivers and has been endorsed by telecom, insurance companies and transportation departments. GMA will initially be developed for Google ANDROID mobile devices, with additional platforms to follow.

Demetrius Thompson, Chairman of Global Mobile Alert (http://www.gma4.com) ACTIVATE IT™ found himself a victim of “drivers on cell phones” in two separate accidents, which launched his quest for a solution. Thompson teamed with technology experts TELECA, who help the leaders of the mobile communications industry, deliver products and services that add new dimensions to the networked community, to develop his device.

GMA was a finalist at the Telematics Awards 2009 for Best Portable Telematics Solution, Best Aftermarket Device, and Best Telematics Service & Application for Commercial Vehicles.

Critical acclaim for Thompson's “ACTIVATE IT”:

"I have investigated far too many accidents where vehicle operators were distracted or simply not paying attention. The tragic toll of these kinds of human performance accidents is growing both in the public sector and for individuals. GMA provides a real time solution by alerting operators to potentially dangerous situations in time to make a difference. It is a simple, life saving application that can and should be deployed today.” -- Peter Goetz, former Managing Director of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

"The system could be configured as an application that fleet companies could use to get discounts on their insurance. With fewer accidents, insurance companies could save on what they have to pay out and the fleet companies could get a discount on their insurance. This application has tremendous potential.” -- Bob Serafini, Vice President of Enterprise Sales at GPS firm Pharos.

"Demetrius’s invention is one of those ideas that makes so much sense, you wonder why it has not been a requirement for all cellular phones. It addresses the growing problem of driver distraction from using their cell phones in an elegant, yet simple way.” -- Phil Baker, technology columnist, author and product development consultant.

"It's about saving lives," says Thompson, who has worked fulltime on the project since 1994. "If you're driving and talking on your cell phone, you're not really paying attention to what's going on in front of you.”

“Global Mobile Alert (http://www.gma4.com) is a welcome tool that solves a past and current problem that costs many lives each year,” says GMA’s President, J. B. Stone. “The new technology is a breath of fresh air to a much-maligned mobile industry that has been hard hit by restrictive legislative laws that have heavily impacted mobile users while driving. GMA’s software is the long-awaited cousin of the cell phone and a positive tool in the 21st century.”
