A key hallmark of Ignatian spirituality, the spirituality around which Chicago-based Loyola Press revolves, is that people are called not just to know about God, but to experience God. With that in mind, the English-language version of the 3-Minute Retreat debuted several years ago to give people the opportunity to spend meaningful time with God for three minutes a day through soothing music, beautiful images, and Scripture or prayer. On January 20, this unique online "God experience" known as the 3-Minute Retreat was made available in Spanish.
Joining the tens of thousands of people who already subscribe to the English version of the 3-Minute Retreat, Hispanics will now be able to turn on their computers, go directly to the Loyola Press Web site, and access Retiro de 3 minutos--the Spanish 3-Minute Retreat. Or if they would rather, they can sign up online to receive a daily e-mail reminder containing a link to Retiro de 3 minutos. And since the retreat changes daily--including the music, images, Scripture, and prayers--there is always a good reason to keep coming back for more retreats.
"The 3-Minute Retreat is a perfect example of how Loyola Press is connecting with the Hispanic population," says Miguel Arias, Loyola Press's consultant for Hispanic ministry. "Hispanics spend a lot of time online, and we want to meet them where they are. These retreats do exactly that." And the Spanish 3-Minute Retreat offers plenty of options to expand the experience. For example, retreatants can access past retreats, they can "share with a friend" the retreat they have just enjoyed, and they can post comments about the retreat experience for others to read.
Ultimately, whether people choose the English or Spanish version of the 3-Minute Retreat, the goal for Loyola Press remains the same: to help individuals grow in their friendship with God through a unique inspirational and meditational experience.
