DynaCenter software automates operations to move workloads among physical and virtual servers

Racemi today announced availability of the newest release of its DynaCenter image-based provisioning software, making integration with other data center software easier than ever for cloud computing and data center automation implementations.

Whether hosted or on-premises, the complexity and scale of cloud computing necessitates automating common processes like server provisioning, which means loading and configuring servers with the operating system and applications so they are ready to run. The ability to rapidly scale and provision systems is a baseline requirement for any cloud architecture.

Racemi software uses virtualization and data center automation technology to capture the entire "personality" of a system, including Windows, Linux and UNIX operating systems, applications and the storage and network configurations, in a single bootable image. This image has the ability to automatically migrate to dissimilar hardware, including physical and virtual systems, while maintaining the personality of the original server. Racemi, a pioneer in image-based provisioning, will enable this same technology for cloud computing deployments in 2010 by allowing server images to be easily provisioned in and out of the cloud.

"Vendors seeking to build cloud products now have the option of integrating Racemi's image-based provisioning technology, which is platform independent, within their own software capabilities, potentially a huge boost in their productivity," said John Abbott, chief analyst, at The 451 Group, a technology industry analyst company.

The new web services application programming interface (API) is delivered as a software development kit (SDK), which includes examples in Java and C++. Racemi uses the industry-standard SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol), which is an HTTP and XML-based pro¬tocol for communicating between applications. This provides a plug-in, "Lego block" approach that complements the already robust command line solution.

The new DynaCenter software also delivers its live capture feature for Windows. Now, live capture support is provided across Windows, UNIX, and Linux so server images can be captured live, in real-time. This facilitates IT disaster recovery, consolidation and migration without requiring service windows or taking systems down, opening up more opportunities for IT automation.

Using live capture on Racemi's next-generation image-based provisioning software means greater uptime and faster service turn around for data center operations.

Also, with this new software release, Racemi has made it easier to make changes in the data center with automatic updates to Racemi DynaCenter management server. The overall system becomes more intelligent, allowing IT to focus on more important tasks and let DyanCenter automation do the work.
