Step Back in Time to When Cruising Was a Way of Life!

Glamour returns to La Quinta Resort & Club, the legendary Hollywood hideaway in La Quinta, Calif., with the third annual Desert Classic Concours d’Elegance (http://www.desertconcours.com) taking place on February 27 and 28.

“We are excited to celebrate a time when Hollywood’s biggest stars arrived at La Quinta Resort & Club in their chrome accented luxury cars and hot rods,” said Ralph Vick, managing director of La Quinta Resort & Club and PGA West. “Spectators will celebrate the epitome of Southern California’s car culture at the Desert Concours.”

Patrons will take a peek into life during the “fabulous fifties.” In this post-war boom, when there was a pent up demand for cars, the United States industrial power created some of the most beautiful and outlandish automobiles ever made, including the 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham, 1955 Mercury “Beldone” D-528 and the 1954 Packard Caribbean, which will be on display. No longer was a car only a mode of transportation; it was a reflection of a person’s lifestyle and status.

“The Desert Concours d’Elegance continues the long-held enthusiasm for automotive history in the Palm Springs area,” said Paul Merrigan, founder of the Desert Classic Concours d’Elegance. “This year’s event promises to be a walk down memory lane for many of our guests who came of age during the 1950s.”

The event will kick off on Saturday, February 27, in Old Town La Quinta. More than 75 rarely seen classic cars from museums and private collections will be on display along Main Street in Old Town La Quinta from 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. for public viewing. The cars will then depart on a driving tour through the Coachella Valley and return to Cuistot restaurant in Palm Desert, where the cars will again be on display from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00p.m.

On Sunday, February 28, beginning at 10:00 a.m., the stunning cars, along with a description of each vehicle and its significance, will be displayed on La Quinta Resort & Club’s Mountain Course. Conjuring up images of the popular Palm Springs Road Races during the 1950s, automobile aficionados will be delighted to see incredible racing cars, including the 1955 Jean Behra Porsche 550 and the 1959 Scarab Formula One Car. In addition to the cars of the 1950s, there will also be dazzling examples from other eras, including the 1939 Shah of Iran Bugatti Type 57 and the 1937 Graham Roadster.

Spectators will enjoy exceptional cuisine prepared by La Quinta’s culinary team, listen to live music, and appreciate the magnificent setting at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains. The event will conclude with the Best of Show presentation at 4:00 p.m.

In its third year, the Desert Classic Concours d’Elegance has established itself as one of California’s premier classic car events. This year’s premier sponsor is the City of La Quinta. Each year, the Desert Concours donates its net proceeds to local Coachella Valley charities. This year’s very deserving organizations include Animal Samaritans SPCA, a non-profit animal welfare organization committed to eliminating the euthanasia of adoptable animals and Boys & Girls Club of Coachella Valley, encompassing three clubhouses in the Coachella Valley that serve 3,600 youth by offering a safe haven and meaningful youth development programs.

Tickets to the Sunday Concours d’Elegance are $25 per person in advance or $30 day of show. Children under 12 and Active Duty Military receive complimentary admission. For more information, please call 760-766-2824.
