Constangy, Brooks & Smith, LLP, a national leader in labor and employment law, has expanded its Midwest presence with the opening of a St. Louis office, its second location in Missouri.

Robert H. Bernstein, formerly of Thompson Coburn, LLP, heads up the St. Louis office. With more than 27 years of exclusively management-side labor and employment experience, Mr. Bernstein represents – on a regional and national basis – numerous multinational and domestic corporations (including many Fortune 500 clients), with a strong litigation and counseling emphasis. He brings his wealth of experience in all aspects of employment law, including class and collective actions, to Constangy’s nationally acclaimed practice.

Mr. Bernstein graduated with honors from Georgetown University and Georgetown University Law Center. He has authored numerous articles and lectured extensively throughout the United States and overseas on a wide array of employment law matters.

“I am thrilled to join Constangy, one of the leading management-side labor and employment firms in the country,” says Bernstein. “Its platform, with many offices around the country, is ideally suited to serve my clients, including here in the Midwest as well as in the Northeast where we continue to expand.”

Edwin C. Ernst IV, formerly with Thompson Coburn, LLP, is joining Mr. Bernstein in starting up the St. Louis office. Mr. Ernst, who is originally from St. Louis (graduating from MICDS), has extensive litigation (both at the state and federal levels) and counseling experience in a wide variety of employment law areas – including workplace discrimination/retaliation, restrictive covenants and wage and hour law. Mr. Ernst graduated with honors from the University of Texas School of Law.

Constangy, which added offices in Greenville, S.C., and Milwaukee, Wis., in 2008, expanded to the Northeast with a Boston office in 2009. The firm continues to explore additional opportunities for growth in 2010 and beyond.

“Our firm is delighted to welcome Rob and Eddie,” Neil Wasser, chairman of the firm, states. “As a boutique firm committed to continued smart growth, Rob’s and Eddie’s top-notch expertise, significant client relationships and approachable style truly fit with Constangy’s culture and our national reputation as trusted advisers. With the addition of this office in St. Louis, Constangy is even better poised to serve clients throughout the Midwest and beyond.”

Constangy has 20 offices nationally and specializes in employment litigation, class action defense, wage and hour law, employee benefits law, labor law, immigration, affirmative action, workers’ compensation, and OSHA. The 64-year-old firm is headquartered in Atlanta, Ga.
