Government Executive Media Group today announced the promotion of Tim Hartman to General Manager, a role in which he will oversee all of the publisher’s editorial and commercial operations.

Government Executive Media Group today announced the promotion of Tim Hartman to General Manager, a role in which he will oversee all of the publisher’s editorial and commercial operations.

“Tim is a talented media executive whose rapid rise through the ranks of Atlantic Media Company (AMC) and Government Executive Media Group can be attributed to his entrepreneurial spirit, digital savvy and deep understanding of how media businesses run,” said Justin Smith, President, Atlantic Media Company.

Hartman joined Government Executive Media Group in 2007 to steward the successful launch of Nextgov.com, which has grown to be the largest federal IT web site in traffic(1). He also oversaw the re-launch of Government Executive Media Group’s independent research division – Government Business Council – which today counts among the organization’s fastest-growing business areas. For the past two years, Tim has overseen the company’s digital publishing operations which include GovernmentExecutive.com – the #1 federal media web site visited by federal managers(2) and Nextgov.com – the #1 federal IT web site visited by federal managers(2).

Hartman will report to Justin Smith, who was recently promoted to President of Atlantic Media Company and will continue to oversee Government Executive Media Group as well as AMC’s other media properties, including The Atlantic and National Journal. Prior to joining Atlantic Media Company in 2007, Smith was the founding President and Publisher of THE WEEK magazine and also held several roles with The Economist Group as well as the International Herald Tribune.

The rest of Government Executive Media Group’s management team remains in place and will report to Tim Hartman: Tom Shoop, Vice President and Editor in Chief; Hilery Sirpis, Vice President of Sales and Associate Publisher; and Will Colston, Vice President, Marketing and Operations. This management team represents nearly 40 combined years of experience with Government Executive Media Group.
