GenderStrategy (http://www.genderstrategy.com) is now a Certified Women’s Business Enterprise by The Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).
WBENC provides and manages the development, enforcement and implementation of its gold standard of certification, which is nationally accepted by thousands of major corporations and a select group of government entities. WBENC certification is a rigorous, multi-faceted business application and review process that is conducted by a trained Certification Review Committee to ensure that women-owned businesses applying for certification are 51 percent owned, operated, and controlled by a woman or group of women. This stipulation is a requirement on which WBENC was founded as a key service to Corporate Members interested in doing business with women-owned businesses.
According to Joan Athen, one of GenderStrategy’s founding partners, “the certification affords us ‘priority business opportunities’ to work with WBENC Corporate Members in the Washington, D.C. area that track best practices and supplier diversity.” Examples of such companies include Washington Gas, Bank of America, Capital One, Citi, Ernst & Young, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Major League Baseball, MasterCard Worldwide, MetLife, Microsoft Corporation, Prudential, Time Warner, Inc, Verizon, Wachovia, etc.
GenderStrategy, a Howard County, Maryland-based company, bridges the gender gap in the workplace through gender-based communication training that delivers a positive impact to the bottom-line for organizations and individuals. The principals of GenderStrategy, Joan Athen, Trent Kittleman and Marie Royce, are high-level business professionals with more than 100 years of combined experience at the highest levels of corporate America, entrepreneurial organizations, and government.
The Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), founded in 1997, is the largest third-party certifier of businesses owned controlled, and operated by women in the United States. WBENC, a national 501(c)(3) non-profit, partners with 14 Regional Partner Organizations to provide its national standard of certification to women-owned businesses throughout the country. WBENC also is the nation's leading advocate of women-owned businesses as suppliers to America's corporations.
