West Virginia rafting outfitter donates a portion of new rafting reservations made during Valentine's Week to the American Red Cross for earthquake relief in Haiti. Make your adventure count; support this fundraising effort and have fun doing it.

West Virginia based rafting outfitter, River Expeditions, announced plans to donate money from rafting proceeds to the American Red Cross for Haiti earthquake relief. During Valentine’s Week, February 8 – 12, River Expeditions will contribute a portion of all new rafting reservations in support of the relief effort. Besides their long time partnership with the American Red Cross, River Expeditions holds the agency in high regard for their humanitarian efforts locally and around the world making them the obvious benefactor of the fundraising effort.

River Expeditions Managing Partner, Heather Johnson, commented, “We've all seen the devastating images and heard the tragic stories from the recent earthquake in Haiti. Like everyone, we want to do our part to help those in need. Valentine’s Week is a perfect time for this call to action.”

Dubbed the ‘Have a Heart for Haiti’ fundraiser, River Expeditions initially announced details through email, their website and social media with a tremendous response so far. Johnson added, “People are excited to book their trip during this time and make their adventure count. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

River Expeditions outfits trips on West Virginia’s New and Gauley Rivers – home of the 2001 World Rafting Championships. Trips are available daily from April through October for beginner to advance paddlers. In addition to whitewater rafting and scenic float trips through the New River Gorge National Park, River Expeditions offers zip line, atv, rock climbing, mountain biking, paintball and other unique adventures.

Roseann Berry, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Fayette-Nicholas Chapter stated, “When Heather Johnson of River Expeditions contacted me about a fundraiser for Haiti, we truly appreciated it. Because of the generosity of donors, people in Haiti will receive more than immediate relief — they will receive resources, support and training from the Red Cross that will help them recover and rebuild for years to come. We already have a great relationship with River Expeditions, especially in our Health & Safety program, and even as we support disaster relief efforts across the country, everyone is being encouraged to donate blood, donate money and take lifesaving training, such as first aid and CPR”. River Expeditions is expected to present a check to the Red Cross the week following the Have a Heart for Haiti fundraiser, on behalf of their rafting guests who supported the cause.
