US I-Gaming Lobbying Spend Is Sharply Rising

A new report from BolaVerde Media Group found that 32 parties spent an estimated $3.65 million, combined, lobbying Internet gambling in Washington, D.C. We now know that regulated Internet gambling in the United States is inevitable and we have a good feel for who the big players will be in this emerging market.

Led by Harrah's Entertainment Inc., Internet gambling supporters, observers and opponents spent an estimated $3.65 million lobbying the United States government during the third quarter of 2009, up 50 percent from $2.41 million the previous year, according to a new report from BolaVerde Media Group (BVMG).

"The Internet Gambling Federal Lobbying Report" also notes that the top three spenders--Harrah's, UC Group Ltd. and the Interactive Gaming Council--all support regulation and, together, accounted for an estimated $2.04 million, or 55.9 percent of total spend.
