No-Burn Helps BASF Meet Ignition Barrier Requirements for Several of its Polyurethane Foam Plastic Insulation Products

No-Burn® Plus intumescent coating has successfully been applied over BASF open and closed cell polyurethane foam plastic insulation products to achieve code-prescribed ignition barrier protection.

Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) insulation is rigid, lightweight, flexible, wind resistant, and effective in extreme temperatures and weather conditions. SPF insulation has the highest R-value per square inch of any commercially available insulation material.

No-Burn, Incorporated and BASF Polyurethane Foam Enterprises, LLC have worked together to complete the testing of a combined system involving the application of No-Burn® Plus intumescent coating over polyurethane foam plastic insulation manufactured by BASF to achieve the required ignition barrier rating for code compliance under applicable sections of the International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC). BASF's rigid, open-cell polyurethane foam plastic insulation, branded ENERTITE® US, as well as the company's closed-cell polyurethane foam plastic insulation products branded SPARYTITE® 178, WALLTITE® US, WALLTITE® US-N and COMFORT FOAM® 178 may now be used in attics and crawlspaces without a prescriptive ignition barrier if No-Burn® Plus intumescent coating is applied over the foam according to the recently released IAPMO Es Report No. 0172.
