“The customer thought by adding an additional T-1 at each location we could allow a faster process of the files across the internet,” says Kumar. Microtech-Tel’s experts found instead that the firewalls set up years earlier by the firm were equipped with site-to-site Virtual Private Network (VPN), but that their firmware and software were out of service and hadn’t been updated to current best practices. Microtech-Tel worked directly with the software vendor of the malfunctioning program to confirm their findings.
Microtech-Tel’s engineers determined that a single T-1 was quite capable of handling the document transfer once a new firewall with management features was installed along with a Level 3 Switch. The solution cut 18 minutes from the time it takes to access the essential software—down to just 2 minutes instead of the 20 minutes the Realtors had been experiencing. With buyers, sellers, respective real estate representatives and closing agents all waiting on documents to finish the transaction, time is indeed money.
Moreover, Microtech-Tel removed the on-net VPN that was causing congestion issues, discarded the out-of-support hardware and delivered improved service at a lower cost to the client than they’d had previously.
