The Blue Dragon Restaurant was recently voted both the Best Live Music and Best Night Spot on the Big Island of Hawaii by the readers of the North Hawaii News. “We provide a truly unique experience combining fresh coastal cuisine with live, local music – all of which happens under the night sky.” said Delphina Dorrance, owner of the Blue Dragon.

Following their dreams, the owners have made it their mission to provide guests with a memorable dining experience. “We are keenly focused on fresh, contemporary and consistently outstanding food and music,” said Blue Dragon head chef Morgan Bunnell. “We are humbly trying to follow the footsteps of Alice Waters, the founder of Chez Panisse restaurant in Berkley, California. We use only local seafood and provide as much organic produce as possible from the farm owned by the Blue Dragon owners in Hawi on the Big Island,” Bunnell continued.

The restaurant has received favorable reviews since it opened two years ago. “Fabulous food and scintillating live music. It’s the kind of dining experiencing everyone hopes to find,” said the Big Island Traveler Magazine.

Calling the restaurant a musiquarium, the Blue Dragon features live music most nights of the week and movies on Wednesdays. It is all presented in a festive space with a ‘ceiling’ that is open to the Hawaii night sky. Artists range from local Hawaiian musicians such as Grammy Award winning guitarists Keoki Kahumoku, John Keawe and multi-award winning John Cruz to the twelve piece Olliephonic Horns featuring big band music.

Recently Makana, the guitar virtuoso, who has been hailed by Esquire magazine as the greatest living slack key guitar player performed at the Blue Dragon to a standing ovation four days after playing at the White House. “It was a holiday reception for 800 guests hosted by the first family,” said Bennett Dorrance, Blue Dragon co-owner. “We are honored to have an award winning musician like Makana playing at the Blue Dragon a few days after playing for President Obama,” continued Dorrance.

Local radio celebrity “Kahikina” aka Tommy Ching recently said in a recent radio interview, “I have personally eaten at the Blue Dragon. It has the most delicious menu anywhere on the Big Island and incredible live music with dancing under the stars. They even have a great Smoothie Cafe that is open during the day."

“I love the food, it’s just great!” said Lloyd Francois, a local Big Island architect. “There is no other place like it on the island. The music is outstanding, price is right and the staff makes you feel like you are in a small neighborhood environment.”

The Dragon uses its state of the art sound system and 15 foot video screen to host high end island music acts, as well as the weekly movie night. They also offer their media rich environment for special events, businesses or wedding events.
