Newport Beach, CA (PRWEB) February 8, 2010
Designers Melissa and Marc Palazzo of the design and interior architecture firm Pal + Smith received California Home + Design magazine’s 2010 award for Best Interior Design of a home over 3,000 square feet at the magazine's annual awards ceremony in the San Francisco Design Center's Galleria Atrium yesterday.
The Palazzos transformed their 1950s Newport Beach ranch house into a stylish and fully functional family residence furnished with eclectic vintage treasures and contemporary furniture, much of it designed by the Palazzos. The house is Melissa’s design laboratory. She frequently redecorates, adding, subtracting and changing furniture that she either designs herself or buys from antiques stores and contemporizes. One thing is constant: The walls are always white to allow the furnishings and art to pop.
The residence takes advantage of the indoor-outdoor lifestyle that Southern California affords. The living, dining and recreation rooms all open onto verdant lawns and beautiful old trees that surround the house. The family-friendly kitchen is open to the living room and has a window over the Waterworks farmhouse sink that looks into the dining room. A loft overlooks the double height recreation room, which incorporates a silver starburst Plug Lighting fixture that “recalls the Sputnik style fixtures of the 1950s and ‘60s”.
The Palazzo residence is featured in California Home + Design's February/March awards issue. A complete list of award winners will be available online early next week at http://www.chdmag.com. It also appeared in a 10-page spread in the last issue of Metropolitan Home magazine in December.
