Journey Healing Centers was built by a family who has dealt with addiction themselves, and wanted to give back by assisting others. Whether it's drugs or alcohol, the entire family is impacted by the addict. Give the gift of family healing this Spring (and year-round) to get your loved ones back using these 3 Family Support Programs. Candice Christiansen, LPC and Journey's Clinical Director explains, "By educating the family on the cycle of addiction, boundary setting, and healthy communication, the family attains sufficient tools to support the recovering individual while maintaining their personal well-being."
For family members, having their loved ones in a safe, healing environment offers an enormous relief. Journey Healing Centers had a client featured on MTV's Gone Too Far with DJ AM, where the family worked together to support their daughter to stop using Meth while pregnant. Since one of the primary age groups that is most affected by drug addiction is 18-29, family support for young adults is even more important. To help families reunite, Journey Healing Centers developed 3 support systems.
1. Family Intervention Support - Along with a staff of licensed doctors and therapists, Journey Healing Centers has a free 24 hour hotline with Addiction Specialists who can answer questions and advise people what to say to a loved one dealing with addiction. During a delicate time, their Family Action Plan can help people find the right words, the right program and long-term care. Families can also call to check in on how their loved one is doing by speaking to their therapist.
2. Family Therapy Groups - To help the family heal together, Journey invites family members to therapy each week during the recovery process. Co-founder Lisa Lannon knows first-hand the value of family healing. Lisa gave her husband a choice between his drinking or their relationship. Lisa explains, "It's all about healing not only the addict, but the whole family unit together. When a family is involved in their loved one's treatment, it also allows them to start the healing process of forgiving and moving forward in a healthy way, building trust and support."
3. Family Aftercare for Life - To support the long-term sobriety of a client, Journey Healing Centers provides free Family Programming for life for everyone in the immediate family. These additional family groups offer everyone extra support for free that is unusual for treatment programs.
After going through Journey Healing Centers and utilizing the Family Programming, a married couple with 3 sons is now happily healed. And the best part is that the recovered alcoholic, Ryan, now says, "Luckily, my wife and sister dragged me down to Journey…. I'm now enjoying life. I'm a good dad again. I enjoy my family. I really couldn't be happier." It's time for more Americans to get their loved ones back and face addiction as a family team versus being alone.
