We're confident that hospitals across the country will continue to prefer Swisslog solutions for their automation needs.

Swisslog, a leading provider of automated materials transport and pharmacy automation solutions for hospitals, is helping its customers survive and thrive despite the difficult economic environment plaguing many healthcare facilities in the United States and Canada.
Swisslog's PillPick and BoxPicker continue to be the pharmacy automation solutions-of-choice for dozens of North America's top hospitals. A hospital's decision to install Swisslog's pharmacy automation solutions is an investment that pays very handsome dividends: increased operational efficiency, lower operating costs and improved patient safety.
PillPick was introduced in the United States in 2003 at Erlanger Medical Center. The PillPick system, currently installed or under contract for installation at more than 40 sites including NYU Langone Medical Center, Singing River Hospital and Ocean Springs Hospital, is an automated robot that packages, barcodes, stores and dispenses unit doses. Offering built-in redundancy, the PillPick can package and dispense simultaneously, reducing filling time for pharmacy orders. The DrugNest storage component of PillPick can store more than 50,000 unit doses at any one time.
The orders are received from the pharmacy information system and are then assembled onto the patented PickRing which holds bar-coded unit doses for a 24-hour period for each patient. Primarily a patient safety item, the PickRing can also be used for automated dispensing cabinet replenishment.
BoxPicker was first installed at Loyola University Medical Center in 2006. Since then, it has become the preferred alternative to outdated carousels at hospitals across the country because it is safer, faster and more efficient. Offering refrigerated, non-refrigerated and dual-temperature storage options, BoxPicker is an automated pharmacy warehouse that provides high-density storage and retrieval of medications and supplies. BoxPicker allows access to only one drawer at a time, enables picks up to three times faster than a carousel, and is scalable to store up to 2000 secure bins. BoxPicker utilizes scan in and out technology, which provides extremely accurate inventory control while optimizing pharmacy workflow. It can also be used as a clean pass-through for USP-797 Clean Rooms.
"Swisslog has a portfolio of automation solutions for hospitals of any size," said Ben Hinnen, vice president of Swisslog's Automated Drug Management Systems (ADMS) division. "From our standalone high-speed strip packagers to PillPick and BoxPicker and our Inventory Management Software, we offer complete pharmacy management options that reduce inventory costs, reduce time spent on non-value added tasks and increase patient safety. We're confident that hospitals across the country will continue to prefer Swisslog solutions for their automation needs."
