The new Bachelor of Arts in Health Care Leadership at the Platt College School of Medical Sciences helps students gain the skills they need to pursue leadership positions in the health care field, including supervisory, administrative, and educational positions requiring a Bachelor's degree. Designed specifically for students who already have their Associate's degree, the program can be completed in as little as 15 months, even while working full time.

The Health Care Leadership program at Platt blends theory and practice to provide students with a solid foundation in business and management fundamentals. For students coming from a health care background, the program builds on clinical and administrative skills learned in health-care Associate's programs. For students coming from outside the health care field, the program provides an introduction to a dynamic industry.

The program's diverse curriculum is designed to help students gain familiarity with the theory and application of current management techniques, and to develop a better understanding of individual and group dynamics in an organizational setting. Instructors are selected from both professional and academic ranks to provide relevant expertise in the course of instruction, and to help students improve their analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Coursework includes: Economics in Health Care Organizations; Leading Diverse Groups and Teams; Informatics in Health Care Organizations; Theory, Practices, and Ethics of Leadership; Marketing Fundamentals; Financial Accounting in Health Care Organizations; Organizational Training and Development; and Project Management. The program culminates with the Leadership Capstone Seminar in which students work in teams on a group-designed project that applies leadership theories and frameworks, demonstrates critical analysis, and incorporates scholarly research and attention to ethical awareness.

Enrollment in the Health Care Leadership and Management Program at Platt is limited to a small number of high-caliber students to ensure personalized attention from instructors, and to foster close teamwork. Platt's focus on drawing students exclusively from the local Southern California health care community helps provide additional opportunities to build personal networks with fellow professionals in the industry.

Eligibility for admission requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, an Associate's degree, and a passing score on a standardized examination given at the school. Financial aid is available to qualified individuals.
