The 2009 Summit Emerging Media Awards competition recognized White Horse’s emerging media work for client Columbia Sportswear with an elite Visionary Award in its third annual award competition. The Visionary Award is given to those who demonstrate unusually keen foresight in emerging media. This status is bestowed on a small fraction of entries.

The Summit EMA's 2009 event, which included approximately 600 entries from around the world, acknowledges industry leaders in interactive media. The Pioneers of Columbia's Greater Outdoors campaign won top honors in the Integrated Campaign category. Designed to extend the reach and depth of Columbia Sportwear's new brand campaign, the campaign utilized video and rich media to engage users with ads that combined disruptive, expandable, and UGC banners with social media content. The promotion microsite featured interactive stories of five outdoor adventure pioneers. Visitors could engage with the brand by nominating their own Columbia pioneers. Nominations were shared on YouTube, Flickr, and Vimeo feeds.

Following a Gold W3 award from the International Academy of the Visual Arts received in October for Mountain Hardwear’s social community, The Expedition Republic, White Horse has achieved five social media awards in twelve months. The awards follow White Horse’s decision to form a designated emerging media practice group in 2008.
