No More Bunny Teeth
(PRWEB) February 17, 2010
Tennessee Orofacial Myology, LLC. is proud to announce opening of the first office in Tennessee to offer therapy for orofacial disorders. According to Dianne Peterson an Orofacial Myologist, " The habit of sucking the thumb can affect normal facial development, one result can be "Bunny Teeth". Intervention is necessary when the parent/guardian, has not been successful. It is also important for the child to cease this behavior for emotional maturity.
Orofacial Disorders include the reverse swallow, open mouth posture, non nutritive sucking behaviors, and tongue rest posture . Orofacial is the location of the mouth and face . Myology is the study of muscle. An Orofacial Myologist has been trained to assist in the creation, restoration, and maintenance of a normal and harmonious muscular environment in the mouth and facial muscle.
Prolonged noxious oral habits, can influence the growth of the face. Because if their is competetion between muscle and the bone, the muscle will always win. Thumb-sucking can lead to the teeth and the jaws being in misalignment. The teeth can begin to "buck " out. Thus the appearance of "Bugs Bunny" teeth. Children with this facial feature have can lack self confidence. Children at young ages can be very cruel to other kids that exhibit abnormal facial development. Thumb-sucking can also lead to open mouth posture, thus mouth breathing. The lips are suppose to be our natural retainers for our teeth. If the lips are not closed then more than likely the teeth will not be straight. If you mouth breath, it can make you more prone to allergies. The nose is suppose to be the body's filtration device. Breathing without lip closure is like running an A/C without a filter.
If you have any abnormal, non nutritive sucking habits, or abnormal rest postures please call an Orofacial Myologist to help elimnate these behaviors, and restore natural facial balance. For more information go to http://www.tongueandthumb.net and http://www.IAOM.com
