With pervasive U.S. cell phone adoption, having a corporate mobile policy in place is becoming a ‘must have’ for businesses of all sizes and industries
San Francisco, CA (Vocus) February 10, 2010
Visage Mobile, provider of the MobilityCentral application for corporate mobility management, today announced they are offering a free corporate mobility policy template to better enable wider enterprise mobile policy adoption. The template, authored along with Philippe Winthrop of Strategy Analytics’ Global Wireless Practice, builds on Visage Mobile’s experience helping hundreds of enterprises create policies to ensure employee safety, save money and prevent corporate liability.
According to a recent CTIA survey, there are more than 246 million wireless data-capable devices at large in the U.S. today. “With pervasive U.S. cell phone adoption, having a corporate mobile policy in place is becoming a ‘must have’ for businesses of all sizes and industries,” said Bzur Haun, president of Visage Mobile. “Inspired by Oprah’s ‘No Phone Zone’ campaign, we wanted to give businesses free access to a policy guidebook that covers all ends of the mobile world – from safety and devices to rate plans – making mobile policy adoption simpler.”
The corporate mobility policy guidebook is intended to equip the workforce with the most appropriate mobile devices, plans and applications to enhance their productivity and performance. Strategy Analytics and Visage Mobile research has shown that companies with defined mobility policies have higher returns on their mobility investments in terms of workforce productivity, flexibility, employee responsiveness to customer needs, as well revenues and profitability that can be attributed to their mobility investments. Suggested policies every business should consider include:
- Zero-tolerance for texting and emailing while driving
- Hands-free only, particularly in states like California, where it’s the law
- No phones with cameras for employees entering into government installations
- Defining personal versus business use expectations for both voice and data/web sites
- No downloads of games, ringtones, etc.
- Use of Wi-Fi versus 3G to control data roaming costs
- Limitations on mobile device upgrades or replacements
