Parker’s BBQ in Wilson, North Carolina was voted the state’s top barbecue restaurant in the inaugural “Best Quest” conducted by http://www.BestofNorthCarolina.com. The new online social community focuses on what’s best in North Carolina, as determined by the people who live, work, and travel to the state. The voting was done by members of the BestofNorthCarolina.com community who volunteered their favorite barbecue restaurants from the beaches in the Outer Banks to the mountains of Asheville.
“We had a number of famous restaurants mentioned throughout the state. What was surprising to us was the fact that as a new online community with most of our members from western North Carolina, so many eastern style barbecue places were selected,” says Hillary Ryland, Editor-in-Chief. “What makes our community different is that content is driven by our readers who are our local experts,” adds Ryland, “It is a virtual water cooler of people sharing who they think is the best, so it’s a real honor for Parker’s to win. We look forward to announcing other winners in future ‘Best Quests’ and, given the success of this year’s challenge, we plan to have a ‘Best Quest’ for barbecue again next year.”
Other barbecue restaurants that placed high in the voting included Moore’s Old Tyme Barbecue in New Bern, B’s Barbecue in Greenville, and Wilbur’s Barbecue in Goldsboro. To see what other restaurants were chosen go to http://bestofnorthcarolina.com/blog/?p=505. In addition, one lucky member was selected at random from all the submissions to enjoy free barbecue at their favorite place. This year’s winner is Jennifer Crume, a culinary school student, who chose a gift certificate to The Pit, her favorite barbecue restaurant in her hometown of Raleigh.
