The education services and technology company Pearson and the National Center for Technological Literacy® (NCTL®) at the Museum of Science, Boston today announced their plan to partner to offer customizable, integrated K-12 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) solutions. These solutions will support states seeking to implement standards-based STEM curricula and meet the Federal Department of Education's Race to the Top and Invest in Innovation (I3) grant priorities.
According to a recent directive from the National Science Board, "The Nation must act now to address the critical needs of its science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education system." Coupled with the emphasis on STEM in the Obama Administration's Race to the Top guidelines, this directive draws attention to the need to prepare more students for advanced study and future careers in these fields and to increase access to rigorous STEM coursework and experts.
The K-12 STEM solutions from Pearson and the NCTL will provide an integrated approach to STEM curriculum, including a collection of courses, training resources, and community partnerships that will help promote relevant and effective learning and teaching. Grant writing and support are available to help states prepare their documentation and customize STEM solutions to integrate into their existing curricula.

Centered on scenario-based activities, Pearson and the NCTL's K-12 STEM solutions will help students learn through the engineering design process and develop ways to solve relevant, real-world problems. The program emphasizes 21st century skills such as creativity and intellectual curiosity, problem-solving, and interpersonal and collaborative skills--all essential skills for success in STEM careers. STEM career pathways are integrated into the instructional model, deepening student and teacher exposure to the variety of STEM career options.
