Author reveals how intuition plays an important role in teaching, learning, and meeting children’s needs

Author Carmen Filipi has been a teacher all her life. Her long and vast experience allowed her to witness many changes in the process of teaching and learning. She shares how she was An Intuitive Teacher: Who Left No Child Behind.

In her many years as a teacher, one question intrigued Filipi the most: Why, in our present time, when we have so many expert books, educational technology, scientific studies, and research, do we still have students who cannot read and students who decide to drop out of school? What is the teaching community missing? To find a reason, she referred back to her past and voluminous experiences.

An Intuitive Teacher is a narrative of the author’s past educational experiences. In her journey, she discovered that intuition is the missing part of the puzzle—which is part of the right brain. In the present educational culture, teaching and learning are done exclusively with the left brain, using verbal and reasoning skills, while neglecting the nonverbal, artistic, intuitive right brain. Thus, to achieve optimal results, there is a need to develop and use both sides of the brain. Only then will the world have a whole educator, capable of educating the whole child.

Filipi believes that like the great teachers of the past, such as Montessori, Pestalozzi, and Froebel, the teacher of the future must be an intuitive teacher. It was the author’s intuition, more than anything else, that helped her to refine her teaching skills, which contributed to the advancement of her students, and no one was left behind. In her book, readers will discover many stories and examples that show how intuition was the key to solving many problems and difficult situations instantly and accurately for the benefit of the student and teacher.

Now more than ever, teachers need to develop and use intuition. There is a need to adapt this new style because of several reasons: the great mobility of students; the fast pace of changes and innovations; and the many problems which teachers confront everyday. Teachers need quick, ready answers and solutions which only intuitive teaching can provide. Intuition always takes people to the right direction and supplies answers to all problems in an instant.
