Total contracts awarded within the wireless industry for Q4 reached 142, down 22% from Q4 2008 levels and up 6% sequentially according to the latest report from EJL Wireless Research, titled “Global Base Station Contract Analysis, Fourth Quarter 2009.”
“Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) secured 59% of total contract awards during the December 31, 2009 ended quarter, beating Huawei (22.5%) and ZTE (13.4%). Motorola won a TD-LTE contract with China Mobile while NSN won its first LTE contracts with Telenor in Denmark and ZAIN in Bahrain. Chinese OEMs captured 36% of overall contracts in Q4,” says founder and President, Earl Lum.
“Demand continues to remain concentrated in Asia Pacific but Western Europe activity has increased due to 3G WCDMA/HSPA expansion and upgrade contracts. Chinese OEMs continue to dominate the CDMA2000 segment as they captured 94.1% of global contracts in Q4 but Alcatel-Lucent won a key EVDO Rev. B upgrade with China Telecom. Nokia Siemens Networks led the way with 65% of total WCDMA/HSPA/HSPA+ awards.
