Proving that it’s a force to be reckoned with among guys 18-24, IGN Entertainment sites IGN.com and AskMen.com outperformed the competition in January 2010, claiming the #1 position among videogames and men’s lifestyle websites, respectively.
According to comScore Media Metrix, IGN.com experienced 37% year-over-year growth in total unique visitors, solidifying IGN Entertainment as the #1 online destination in the gaming information category for the month of January 2010 – the first full month following a major overhaul of IGN.com in December 2009. The flagship site launched a-new in December with a major redesign and brand refresh aimed at extending its appeal and accessibility to reach beyond the traditional "core gamer" to attract mainstream audiences.
Among the leading men’s lifestyle sites*, AskMen.com continued to crush the competition – according to comScore Media Metrix, the site more than doubled its closest competitor in total unique visitors for January 2010. Due in no small part to the popularity of AskMen’s annual “Top 99 Most Desirable Women” feature, which debuted in mid-January to overwhelming success, the site drew in 6.9 million unique viewers in January alone – an all-time high for the site – and demonstrated record-level year-over-year growth in unique monthly visitors (up 38.4 %), page views (up 23.8%) and total minutes per visit (47.1 %).
“The numbers don’t lie – we know how to reach guys, and we know games. For established brands like IGN and AskMen to experience this kind of growth is remarkable and demonstrates the effectiveness of both sites in reaching and engaging the 18-34 male audience,” said Roy Bahat, President, IGN Entertainment.
The news follows a series of moves by IGN Entertainment to refocus its efforts on building out its suite of games-related and men’s lifestyle offerings to deliver the most relevant coverage for men. The company’s stable of gaming-related and men’s lifestyle properties reach the most concentrated audience of males 18-34 and one of the highest concentrations of technology influencers on the Web today.
