OpenFeint X is by far our most ambitious and transformative effort
Burlingame, CA (PRWEB) February 17, 2010
Aurora Feint Inc. is stealing a page out of the social games playbook that has created companies Crowdstar and Zynga. Today, OpenFeint X, opens in private beta and offers developers the ability to create free-to-play games including microtransactions and virtual goods. The free-to-play model, which has become a runaway success on the web via Facebook, has the potential to change the iPhone games market forever from the perspective of viral growth and pricing.
"OpenFeint X is by far our most ambitious and transformative effort," said Jason Citron, Founder and CEO of Aurora Feint Inc. "We know that there is tremendous interest in creating the next Zynga, CrowdStar, and PlayFish of the iPhone. We also know that developers who aspire to these ambitions want the platform on which they can build these kinds of lucrative businesses. OpenFeint X is exactly that platform."
OpenFeint X, which launches in private beta today with strategic partner DeNa Group, will be rolled out to the general public in phases over the next few months. The existing OpenFeint platform already powers social gaming services for 12 million users and is growing at a pace of 25% monthly.
All of the core services of OpenFeint X are free to developers. Using the new platform, developers will be able to expose their game to millions more gamers with incentivized game invites and all new customized game boxes on players' profiles. Other features include a chat wall where players can interact with each other, a newsfeed showing recent in-game activity, and game nudges. OpenFeint X's premium services provide the cloud infrastructure to build and run a social game including a full virtual goods store, detailed analytics, a game-specific currency wallet, and downloadable game assets.
"OpenFeint X is the culmination of bringing the best of Xbox Live and Facebook's App Platform to the iPhone, and extending the multi-billion dollar virtual goods social gaming economy to mobile," said Peter Relan, Executive Chairman of Aurora Feint. Relan also holds the same position at CrowdStar, the #2 Social Game developer on Facebook, which makes huge hits such as Happy Aquarium, Happy Island and Happy Pets.
Relan concludes, "OpenFeint X is the platform on which the next big social gaming companies will be created."
