Total contracts awarded within the wireless industry for 2009 reached 562, up 2.2% from 2008 levels of 550 according to the latest report from EJL Wireless Research, titled “Global Base Station Contract Analysis, 2009 Annual Review.”
“Total contract awards for the Chinese OEMs were 35.6% in 2009. Total contracts for Huawei Technologies increased 33% year over year and confirms the market share gains that the company has been claiming while ZTE contract awards increased 9%,” says founder and President, Earl Lum.
“Asia Pacific continued to be the largest region for contract awards and accounted for 32.5% while a combined European region was 31.2%. Chinese OEMs won 30.4% of W-CDMA/HSPA/HSPA+ contracts in 2009, up from 20.5% in 2008. For LTE technology, Ericsson won the most contracts with three while Huawei won the most HSPA+ contracts with seven,” says Lum.
The base station contract analysis reports are issued on a quarterly and annual basis and provide a unique perspective on the global cellular/PCS base station contract awards and demand for mobile base station equipment covering all major OEMs including Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei Technologies, Motorola, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nortel Networks and ZTE.
