m62 visualcommunications, the global leader in presentation effectiveness, has today released tips on how to engage an audience in a sales presentation.

In any business presentation, it is important for the presenter to ensure that his audience are fully engaged and paying full attention. The majority of information retained in working memory is almost entirely depleted over a period of five days. This means that it is crucial for the presenter to ensure that audiences absorb as much information as possible in a presentation, to minimise the risk of important points being forgotten.

Promoting audience interaction is a good way to keep the audience engaged in a presentation. Audiences that feel included typically stay much more focused, thus keeping working memory engaged and ensuring maximum recall.

Tips for encouraging audience interaction include asking the audience questions or posing puzzles for them to solve, and using the prospect’s company as an example throughout the presentation.

Chas Williams, Training Manager at m62, commented: “As well as using effective visual aids and PowerPoint design, there are many tips and tricks that can be utilised to ensure that an audience are fully engaged. Not all techniques require training: some, such as posing questions to the audience, can be implemented by any presenter.

“It is careful to ensure that the presenter still manages to get his key points across however, particularly in a sales presentation or when time is limited. If an audience feel involved but the presenter still has control over the presentation, the right balance has been achieved. Leaving sufficient time at the end of a pitch for question and answer sessions is much more beneficial.”

m62 has produced almost 10,000 presentations for clients worldwide, and its services range from presentation skills training to free downloadable PowerPoint templates.
