TOS50.com launched today, is geared towards people on the other side of 50. TOS50.com hopes to engage this burgeoning demographic with entertainment, information and news stories specifically geared to their needs and sensibilities. Topics to be discussed in the coming weeks include saving money for retirement, changing careers later in life, looking for new leisure activities and vacation planning. Users will find tips from the experts and a welcoming place for stimulating cyber discussion with an audience of their peers.
"TOS50.com was created specifically for the ever-expanding group of people over fifty", explains site founder Sandy Tankoos. While there are many websites that address specific areas of interest to this demographic, Ms. Tankoos recognized a need for a site that would bring together the topics that appeal most to baby boomers and the retired or soon to be retired community in a single, interactive, user friendly interface. She cites an important fact, that by 2015, those aged 50 and older will represent 45% of the US population.
"The baby boomer community has unique interests and needs" said Ms. Tankoos. "Whether it's the foods they eat, the trips they plan, or information about financial investment, their healthcare or the changing family dynamics that occur when someone retires, this website will address the themes that are important to that community."
The website incorporates an extensive amount of original content, including videos, photographs, audio slideshows and essays, provided by various field experts. The site will be updated frequently so that users always have something new to view when they visit the site. Users will find information divided into sections, including Arts & Entertainment, a book club, Family Dynamics, Financial Fitness & Life Planning, Greening & Gardening, Health & Wellness, Nutrition & Good Eating, Profiles, Style & Beauty, Travel and Volunteerism & Philanthropy.
The site features an exclusive interview with Ira Lee Sorkin, Bernard Madoff's defense attorney. The interview was conducted by David Schwartz, a criminal defense attorney who frequently appears on Fox News and CNN. In the interview Mr. Sorkin explains how and why he came to defend Madoff and expresses his view of what went wrong on Wall Street. The video interview with will be featured on the homepage of TOS50.com.
Section content will include tips on finance, changing careers, fitness programs, eating healthy and gardening. Users will be able to play bridge and chess on the site, as well as review books that are appropriate for the TOS50.com audience. The site provides several financial planning tools, including a cost-of-retirement calculator and an important checklist of legal documents and records that everyone should have. Users are encouraged to become members of TOS50.com, where they can participate in forums, ask question of the experts, and share their own opinions and stories on topics of interest to them. TOS50.com users are also encouraged to send in travel videos and photos of special events or special people, information on their favorite charities, or books, music and movies that they think others will relate to.
Said Ms. Tankoos "by becoming a member of TOS50.com, you join a community that has learned from our shared past as we look forward to the future."
