In spite of a year of adverse weather conditions — 2009 was the fourth wettest year on record in Illinois with below-normal temperatures—Mount Sterling’s Rolling Greens golf-course renovation and expansion will open on schedule in the summer of 2010 thanks to Turf Solutions Group.

"In 2009 there were many weeks when we couldn’t do any work at all because of the rain," Noble Beck, advisory board member of the club's membership board, said of an ambitious project that will bring the course into the 21st century. "But thanks to Turf Solutions Group crews who made up time by working evenings and weekends, we are on schedule without any increase in cost. Turf Solutions Group continues to go above and beyond to meet our deadlines."

Currently, there are five golf courses under construction in Illinois. TSG is building two of them. Rolling Greens, located in the west-central Illinois town of Mount Sterling, is updating its 42-year old course with a complete renovation of the existing nine holes, the addition of a new nine holes, and a new practice area that includes a range and separate greens for chipping and putting.

"Through the dedication of our crews, we were able to complete Rolling Green’s grassing in the fall of 2009," said TSG managing partner Jason Payne. "We are currently in a maturation phase and will be watching the turf closely as we come into Spring. Protecting the grass now during the “grow-in” phase will allow it to develop a strong root system."

The result, expected to open in the summer of 2010, is a 140-acre golf course that will play nearly 6,600 yards from the back tees. The club's membership has nearly doubled in anticipation of the 2010 opening.
"Everyone is excited about the course opening. It's going to be a really great 18-hole course for a town of 1,900 people," Beck said. "TSG has done everything possible to ensure that we are back on the course this summer, and we really appreciate it."
