New Directions Consulting will be offering an encore workshop on how best to manage the newest generation coming into the workplace, Generation Y (the generation born between 1980-1994). Michael Harrington, Director of New Training and Strategic Initiatives of New Directions Consulting, presented the workshop on the 'fickle generation' last year as a partnership with the Albany-Chamber of Commerce. With a great response to the first workshop, New Directions has decided to offer an encore version of the workshop entitled, Gen Y: How to Engage, Motivate, and Retain the New Workforce. The workshop will take place at the Albany-Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, March 25th from 9:30am to 11:30am.
Generation Y, also known as the Millennial generation, is currently in the workforce or will be graduating and entering the job market in a few years. With over 70 million people representing this generation, organizations are scrambling to meet the demands and retain many of these new employees who characteristically hop from one organization to another. Harrington will discuss how to better understand the generation's unique needs, how to identify common conflicts and valuable solutions when working with the generation, as well as offer helpful tips and tactics on how to motivate Gen Y to be high-performance employees.
Harrington is an experienced presenter and a thought leader on Gen Y. Since his last presentation at the Chamber on Gen Y, companies have hired Harrington to come in and begin to develop a new way to capitalize on the talent and fresh perspective the latest generation brings. "Many people ask the big question: how do we retain Gen Y in our organization? I have a belief that if you can motivate them and engage them constantly at their jobs, they will want to stay. The trick is finding how to engage and how to motivate. I think we offer some great ways and new perspectives on how to do that. One way is through our Belief: Behavior Connection which we discuss in our workshops," states Harrington.
Prior to New Directions, Harrington served for three years as Chief Student Affairs Officer at Paul Smith's College where he implemented a comprehensive student development program that focused on student motivation and accountability. At New Directions Consulting, Harrington's main focus is to design and deliver training and development programs for a wide range of employees including Gen Y.
