Edison, NJ (PRWEB) February 23, 2010
CheckPoint HR, the trusted ally in web-based Human Resources management for small to mid-sized companies, today announced the results of its "Employee Morale" survey delivered to business executives and human resources (HR) professionals at more than 400 companies in the Tri-State area. The survey, conducted in January 2010, offers insight into the current sentiment of employees from small to midsized companies.
According to the survey, more than 50% of respondents indicated that employee morale was down, or viewed negatively at their organization. In addition, 49% of organizations who responded indicated that managing expenses is the number one priority for 2010, while another 32% believe maintaining employee engagement and productivity was the most important priority.
"What the data is revealing is a bit alarming. Organizations should focus on improving employee morale as part of their economic recovery strategy in order to achieve and/or sustain productivity," said Michelle Moylan, HR Specialist, CheckPoint HR. "In a time when many organizations are faced with financial uncertainty or restricted budgets, the importance of fostering and ensuring an engaged and productive workforce is a key initiative which should not be overlooked."
Human Resource professionals should take a closer look at how their employees are functioning and educate executives accordingly. Changing or modifying ones business strategy to address a disengaged employee population is extremely important. Organizations have to look inward and assess what needs to be implemented to yield market stability or profitability. If executives are not aware of the mindset of their employees, they may very well make the wrong decisions and create a strategy not supported by their employee population or one which will be hindered by turnover.
Ms. Moylan added, "The bottom line here, based on what the data respondents are sharing with us, is that 50% of the workforce is not focused. HR professionals and executives alike need to ask themselves, what does this mean? How is it affecting our organizational performance and how can our employees become a part of the solution? HR professionals can work with their organizations to create and implement a strategy to mitigate risks and position employees and management for economic recovery."
Employee morale and engagement directly impacts productivity and motivation. CheckPoint HR believes that organizations need to openly communicate with their employees and reassure them that their focus is still forward thinking and that there are many ways in which they can contribute to the organizations success and community around them. Lack of employee engagement, or uncertainty in the workplace, will most certainly affect an organization - especially with respect to productivity, safety, customer service and other business-critical functions.
"For many organizations it's about empowerment and survival," added Ms. Moylan. "HR professionals have an opportunity to directly affect the organizations bottom-line by educating managers and employees alike on the overall objectives of their organization. Engaging your staff in the companies overall initiatives and objectives helps alleviate uncertainty, keeps employee's spirits up, encourages production, and supports the overall mission of an organization."
