MBABuzzKill.com has named their 2010 Honor Roll for the best MBA Alternatives with the Master of Education in Human Resource Development offered by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign topping this year’s list.
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was noted for its high standing in national university rankings, very affordable tuition (approximately $18,000) and subject matter.
“The Human Resource Development program at Illinois has it all,” commented Thomas Heim, founder of Tanjent Communications, publisher of MBABuzzKill.com. “The school is highly ranked, the cost is dirt cheap, and the career field is booming. The return on investment for this degree will undoubtedly be swift."
Clemson University’s Master of Science in Human Resource Development program claimed second place. Two degrees from the University of Connecticut, the Master of Professional Studies in Human Resource Management and the Master of Science in Accounting, rounded out the top four.
“It’s no mistake that three degrees related to human resources made the top three,” continued Mr. Heim. “According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment is expected to ‘grow much faster than the average’ for all human resources, training, and labor relations managers and specialists occupations.”
The ranking features online graduate programs that strike the perfect balance between affordability, prestige as largely dictated by U.S. News 2010 ranking, and career potential according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 2010-11 Occupational Outlook Handbook.
Five other MBA Alternatives are included in the list: Indiana University's Master of Science in Strategic Management, Northeastern University's Master of Science in Leadership, Auburn University's Master of Accountancy, Stetson University's Master of Accountancy, and Quinnipiac University's Master of Science in Organizational Leadership.
Each program on the Honor Roll is regarded as an alternative to the MBA, providing a highly specialized business education in lieu of a general business education. Each program is delivered via distance learning and has a total cost of $18,000-$35,000.
