Academy of MATH Builds 21st Century Skills, Closes Achievement Gap in Math

School Specialty announced today that the Academy of MATH® has been adopted by the West Virginia Board of Education. The award-winning intervention software was selected to help students build the 21st century skills required to meet West Virginia Mathematics Standards. The math software program was reviewed by the state's Instructional Materials Review Committee and approved by the West Virginia State Board of Education.

The Academy of MATH enables struggling students to build fluency in the foundation skills of mathematics in 10 critical content areas identified by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Students of all ages in a wide range of learning environments demonstrate significant gains in math proficiency with just 30 minutes of training a day, three to five days per week.

Effective for use with Tier 1 at-risk, Tier II and Tier III students under the Response to Intervention (RTI) model, the software features a mastery learning approach that incorporates computational fluency, Spanish language support and positive feedback to introduce and reinforce concepts. Through a rich set of web-based management tools, the Academy of MATH provides educators with real-time access to progress monitoring data, detailed error analysis and fidelity reports to make important instructional decisions.

Through its Global 21 initiative, the West Virginia Department of Education is committed to ensuring that all students graduate with 21st-century skills.
