Leap into Saint Patrick's Day with The Junior League of Atlanta's 6th Annual ShamRock 'N Roll Road Race Presented by Verizon Wireless

Kick off St. Patrick's Day celebrations with the Junior League of Atlanta's ShamRock 'N Roll Road Race, presented by Verizon Wireless, March 14, 2010 at Atlantic Station. The ShamRock 'N Roll Road Race is once again Peachtree Road Race qualifier. Hosted by The Junior League of Atlanta, this sixth annual event raises funds to train and educate the membership of the League for effective community service as well as to financially aid projects and programs of community partners where League volunteers serve. With the start and finish at 20th Street in Atlantic Station, shoes hit the pavement starting at 8 a.m. for the 5K and 8:30 a.m. for the 10K, with both ending on a downhill finish.

Runners will enjoy their personal pot of gold in the form of unique awards including overall winners, age groups, the first kilt-wearing finisher, and new for 2010, the Team Spirit Award. Other exciting highlights include:

  •     A pre-race warm-up powered by Operation Boot Camp
  •     Pre and post-race pump up sessions with Star 94
  •     Bands including Stratogeezer and The Consoultant along the course
  •     The opportunity to win fun door prize drawings
  •     Post-Race Party including Irish music, dancers, clowns, and lots of luck
  •     All entrants will receive a moisture-wicking, technical running shirt

This year's ShamRock 'N Roll will include team registration and the first Team Spirit Award for the team showing the most team spirit during the race. Teams of 20 or more will receive a $5 discount per runner. All members of the team must turn in their paper registration forms together to be eligible for this special rate. Runners who register before March 6th pay $25 and those who register after March 6th pay $30. There will be no race day registration, so remember to sign up early. The Packet Pick Up Party for the ShamRock 'N Roll Road Race will be hosted by American Mountain Apparel at Vinings Jubilee, 4300 Paces Ferry Road, Suite 226 on Friday, March 12 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, March 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Runners are encouraged to visit American Mountain and pick up their race packets including race numbers and T-shirts while enjoying refreshments and the chance to win fun door prizes.

"The Atlanta community of runners and walkers has embraced the ShamRock 'N Roll Road Race. We are once again a Peachtree Road Race qualifier and expect to have more than 2000 runners and walkers hit the pavement with us on March 14," said Susannah Balish, president of the Junior League of Atlanta. "With the generous support of our sponsors including Verizon Wireless and our media sponsor Star 94, we hope to surpass last year's fundraising efforts and put that money to good use for a positive change in the Atlanta community."
Verizon Wireless is a recognized corporate leader in the ongoing domestic violence awareness campaign. Verizon Wireless' HopeLine program turns unused wireless phones into support for victims of domestic violence. Phones are refurbished or recycled, and funds are used to purchase new wireless phones with airtime for victims or used to fund prevention and awareness programs. The Verizon Wireless HopeLine Award will recognize the first Junior League of Atlanta member to cross the finish line for each race for both her speed on the race course and the many hours of volunteer service contributed to benefit women and children in the Atlanta community.
