Mocana today announced the company has been nominated for the prestigious 2010 SPIFFY Awards presented by the Telecom Council of Silicon Valley. The Council states that all "SPIFFY nominees are identified by over 20 global carriers for their promise and impact across the telecom industry."
Mocana's nomination is for the Zephyr Award for Best Mobile Opportunity, awarded to the startup that Telecom Council members see as the best investment opportunity within the mobile telecom sector.
The SPIFFY nominees were selected by members of the Telecom Council's Service Provider Forum (SPIF), including AT&T, British Telecom, NTT DoCoMo, France Telecom/Orange, Swisscom, Verizon and many other fixed and wireless carriers from Europe, Asia, and the Americas. In announcing the nominees, the Council states that "SPIFFY nominations indicate a startup has innovation, opportunity, and a quantifiable interest among our 20 global Service Providers."
In 2009, the Telecom Council reviewed over 100 startup companies across a broad a range of telecom products and services. In selecting the nominees, the Telecom Council identified the startups that have significant potential and ideas that most appeal to communication service providers from around the globe.
"Mocana's nomination for the best investment opportunity within the mobile telecom space is a milestone in our goal of securing 20 billion devices worldwide," said Adrian Turner, CEO of Mocana. "This recognition from the world's top carriers underlines the validity of our strategy."
The SPIFFY Award nomination continues Mocana's track record of garnering honors for the company's strategy and vision, including winning the Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation of the Year award for 2008 for Device Security, and being named to the Red Herring Global 100 in 2009.
The award winners will be announced at the annual SPIFFY Award Ceremony this evening in Palo Alto, California.
