The Revelation of Jesus Christ: The Cross and the Crown of Our Savior and Lord, a new book by G. David Dean, Jr., has been released by Dorrance Publishing Co., Inc. It is designed to provide the reader with a comprehensive, intricate look at the biblical book of Revelation. Drawing from the author's involvement in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, he has written this book primarily--as its title indicates--to illuminate how Christ and the Gospel are presented in Revelation.
G. Davis Dean, Jr., explores the reasons behind the writing of Revelation, the ways it is connected to other books of the Bible, and some of the symbolism and numerology that appears within it. Another intricately detailed section is that which explores the recurring themes of the book, among them: Christ; the Church's worshipping community; the Church versus the world; the struggles on Earth; the militant and triumphant Church; and, ultimately, victory. Dean discusses various modes of interpreting Revelation and establishes the framework for doing so.
Ultimately, The Revelation of Jesus Christ: The Cross and Crown of Our Savior and Lord could be a helpful addition to the reference shelf of a preacher or theologian. And yet it is written in such a way as to potentially appeal to any reader interested in deepening his or her faith and coming into a stronger knowledge of the Bible and, as a result, a more meaningful relationship with Christ.
G. Davis Dean, Jr., was born on May 27, 1959, in Miami, Florida. Born to father Goble and mother Martha, he also has one sister, Helen Elizabeth Dean Bergquist. Dean lived in Miami until 1971, when the family moved to Altamonte Springs near Orlando, Florida. While still in the central Florida area, he obtained a bachelor of arts degree at the University of Central Florida in anthropology in 1980. When close to graduation, the national mood changed away from the humanities to engineering and business. So Dean began his adult work life in the field if real estate appraisal as an associate of a local firm.
During these years, although raised in a moral household, Dean did not describe himself as a Christian. Then, after having been invited to visit and attend Trinity Lutheran Church in Orlando, the Holy Spirit worked through the ministries of pastors Milan Weerts and James Kunze. Dean was baptized as an adult convert to the Christian faith on April 15, 1987.
Possessing a curious and studious mind, Dean has always been a reader favoring the subjects of history and conservative thought. But as the desire to deepen his faith and service developed, Dean moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he obtained a master of arts at Concordia Theological Seminary in 1996. While establishing a new life in the Fort Wayne area, Dean's interests in the Book of Revelation led to the eventual assemblage of a manuscript on the subject.
