The episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition that aired on February 14th featured two projects that were completed: the Tripp family home and The Fishing School. NUDURA is honored to have worked closely with insulated concrete forms builders to help with the installation. These two builds, each completed in only one week, both utilized an insulated concrete form house foundation.

These two projects were located in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. where two separate groups of people are busy trying to make the futures better for inner city children. The ICF concrete house that was built for the Tripp family was long overdue. The Tripp family invites 40 children each week over to their crowded home for a hot meal, fun activities or just to talk. Living in a home that is only 900 square feet and highly dilapidated made it an unsafe place for that many kids. The ceiling was caving in, the floors were rotting and the rainwater would leak through the roof, run down the walls and eventually end up in a pool in the basement. The entire foundation of the house was rotting away. This is where NUDURA comes in. NUDURA donated their product to the insulated concrete form house structure. After tearing down the existing house, the NUDURA product was put into place. The ICF concrete house was a big success!

The second part of the project was a house as well, but one that is used for a different purpose. This house, in which The Fishing School calls home, is a place where kids can go after school to receive tutoring. These students are taught in the subjects of math, spelling, science and more. This house was so crowded and run down that the school had turned down 30 to 40 families who asked for help. Once the demolition was complete the hard work began. NUDURA supplied the house with the insulated concrete forms for the house and construction was underway. Now that the makeover is complete, there is plenty of room for the school to provide a great opportunity for even more students.
