Following on the heals of Scribe’s successful launch of the M*Modal Speech Understanding Engine as the first purely Web-native offering, Scribe is announcing the launch of VERSUS (Voice Enabled Recording and Speech Understanding System)

“Physicians can dictate from their office computer in the morning, the hospital computer in the afternoon, and their iPhone in the evening,” says Scribe Vice President John Weiss.

Scribe Healthcare Technologies, Inc. (, announced Monday its latest offering in its line of speech understanding products. Scribe’s Voice Enabled Recording and Speech Understanding System, VERSUS Front-End will allow physicians to dictate reports and receive the draft in real-time.

Like Scribe’s back-end speech offering, Scribe VERSUS Front-End benefits from M*Modal’s award winning Speech Understanding engine. Scribe delivers VERSUS as a purely Web-native offering. Physicians can dictate from any computer connected to the Internet. No special software or hardware is required to install or maintain. “Physicians can dictate from their office computer in the morning, the hospital computer in the afternoon, and their iPhone in the evening,” says Scribe Vice President John Weiss.

While not every physician is a good candidate for front-end speech, Scribe VERSUS allows the physician to work as he or she prefers. Scribe VERSUS Front-End allows physicians to self-edit or with the click of one button forward the draft to transcription for editing.

When used in conjunction with Scribe’s back-end speech offering, dictator profiles are shared and created without any physician involvement. The physician dictates, the transcriptionist transcribes or edits the draft report. As the dictator profile improves some physicians may choose to self-edit to reduce document costs further.

“With other speech recognition solutions, the purchase costs can be prohibitive for smaller hospitals, clinics and practices. Scribe’s VERSUS Front-End and other Speech Understanding solutions are delivered in a Software As A Service (SaaS) model – pay as you go for only what you use,” explains John Weiss. “We have customers that range form large academic medical centers to single physician practices. Our technology bridges the gap between paper and digital. As the vision of the HITECH Act becomes more clear, our ability to take the narrative voice and deliver Meaningful Clinical Information into the appropriate fields within the EHR will ensure our customers meet the requirements.”

Scribe’s VERSUS Front-End delivers benefits including:

  • Physicians choose self-edit and sign-off; batch processing and sign-off; or transcriptionist editing and completion with return to the physician for sign-off.
  • Automatically create unique combination of narrative text and structured, encoded data that can be feed into the EHR.
  • The same narrative text can be delivered into a beautifully formatted MS Word or PDF document for printing or delivery to patient or referring physician.
  • Easily integrate via Discrete Reportable Transcription to PACS, RIS, and EHR. Outputs are in standard HL7 CDA format and can comply with the new standards put forth by the Health Story Project.
