Healthcare Interactive Supports HPM Institute Director in Calling for More Active Enterprise Involvement in Managing Healthcare Quality and Costs

In response to last week's healthcare summit, Healthcare Interactive voices its agreement with the Director of the HPM Institute that there is a growing need for healthcare performance management strategies to be implemented in the business community and utilized by companies' upper management tiers.

Largely ignored by both political parties in last week’s Healthcare Summit was discussion of proactive steps that employers can take today to reduce costs and improve the quality of healthcare services.

George Pantos, Executive Director of the Healthcare Performance Management Institute, was one of the few -- if not the only -- voices to describe the positive role healthcare performance management (HPM) strategies can play in controlling skyrocketing healthcare insurance costs for employers, while improving the quality of services to employees.

In an op-ed column published in the Orange County Register, Pantos raised a critical question:

“Companies have tackled customer relations and supply-chain management with technology-driven strategies. So why not do the same for health benefits?”

“Such ‘health care performance management’ business strategies can alert companies to expensive problems within their benefits programs -- and then help them find ways to implement money-saving fixes. The innovative technology for doing so exists. It just needs to be adopted on a grand scale – and doesn't require an act of Congress,” he says.

It is a call to action that is being taken up by a growing number of organizations.
