San Francisco, CA—Mar. 2, 2010 –, the first and largest open media site where anyone can report from anywhere, kicked off the Allvoices Iraqi Elections Reporting Incentive. The contest is designed to inspire citizen and professional journalists interested in reporting on Iraq news related to the upcoming Parliamentary Elections scheduled to take place on March 7, 2010. Allvoices has a global community where more than 300,000 citizen reporters from over 170 countries share news, videos, images and opinion.

Allvoices encourages citizen journalists to report real news from their own view and to have a voice. The recent Allvoices 2010 Winter Olympics Incentive inspired citizen journalists to contribute over 500 reports that covered events from multiple and interesting perspectives. Citizen reporters in Vancouver, the U.S. and around the world actively shared news, opinion, anecdotes and heartwarming stories about the games.

“Allvoices is committed to and passionate about enabling real local to global news, and highlighting Iraqi news from citizens on the ground is essential to giving a 360 degree view of the elections,” says Michael Sherf, Allvoices community guru. “We also welcome perspectives from our entire global community, our 4.5 million monthly readers, and all global citizens who want to engage in dialogue about the Iraqi elections.”

Citizen reporters are invited to:

  •     Share perspectives on the upcoming Iraqi elections
  •     Describe how the elections will affect the future of Iraq and its diverse communities
  •     Highlight and assess the untold Iraqi election stories
  •     Discuss the most important issues Iraq is currently facing such as the refugee and human rights problem
  •     Report how the Iraqi people feel about the impending American pullout and the level of support for coalition forces as it relates to the elections

The Allvoices Iraqi Elections Incentive rewards the top original Iraq elections news stories contributed to Allvoices based on page views. The first place winner earns $500, second place earns $250, and $100 for third. The incentive runs from February 24th through March 24th, 2010. Winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded within 30 days of the contest end.
