Such solutions help us to enhance our focus on patient safety and to improve the quality of patient care, allowing UC San Diego Medical Center to blaze the trail and take another successful step toward a fully integrated electronic medical record

Perminova, Inc., an innovator in affordable, flexible web-hosted Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, and the only provider of a comprehensive web-hosted surgery information management system, today announced the rapid, successful delivery of its CardioSure Application Suite™ at University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) Medical Center’s Electrophysiology (EP) Lab. CardioSure offers the UC San Diego EP Lab enhanced productivity and performance by moving to an innovative new electronic workflow that improves access to patient information and overall patient care.

“To make scheduling and tracking procedures more simple, we need visibility into active cases across both of our UC San Diego Medical Center, where there are multiple physicians, clinicians and staff members needing concurrent access to information from various locations,” said Lisa Baer, RN, BSN, CCRN. Mrs. Baer is the Nurse Manager for Cardiovascular Catheterization and Electrophysiology Labs at UC San Diego Medical Center.

Unlike conventional enterprise healthcare solutions, Perminova’s CardioSure™ was implemented in the UCSD EP Lab in just six weeks, an unprecedented timeframe for medical software implementations of equal magnitude. CardioSure – a secure, web-based solution that simplifies cost and increases efficiency by enabling anytime, anywhere information access through an agile, open standards-based technology platform – also met the EP Lab’s requirement to integrate with legacy systems in order for UC San Diego Medical Center to optimize its previous technology investments. This is part of the hospitals’ effort to achieve meaningful use by developing an effective electronic health record (EHR) system.

“Such solutions help us to enhance our focus on patient safety and to improve the quality of patient care, allowing UC San Diego Medical Center to blaze the trail and take another successful step toward a fully integrated electronic medical record,” said Dr. Ulrika Birgersdotter-Green, MD, Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine, specializing in Cardiac Electrophysiology at UCSD School of Medicine. She also is the Director of the Pacemaker/ICD Clinic at UC San Diego Medical Center. Dr. Birgersdotter-Green's special interests include development of new methods and indications for pacemakers and ICD implantation. She is actively involved in several large clinical trials evaluating biventricular pacing therapy for heart failure management. Dr. Birgersdotter-Green added, "I feel privileged to be involved in cardiac research, as well as to have an active clinical practice which allows me to work closely with my patients. Innovative medical solutions offered by this type of information management system will facilitate collaborative research between and among healthcare professionals.”

Improvements offered to UC San Diego Medical Center’s EP Lab through Perminova’s CardioSure Application Suite are:

  •     Ease of scheduling and case tracking
  •     Enhanced charge capture for supplies and billing
  •     Advanced data abstraction and auditing capabilities
  •     Standardized documentation
  •     Reduced cost and footprint with removal of paper-based procedures
  •     Specialty-specific workflow
  •     Compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines
