A series of amateur video podcasts recounting personal memories of the Guinness Company and its influence on life in Dublin’s inner city has been recognised by the glitterati of the digital media world with a ‘Best in Podcasting Award’ at the prestigious Satellite Broadband Ireland Digital Media Awards event. The ‘Memoirs of Guinness’ podcast series was the brainchild of a local Dublin history group, D8CEC who approached drinks company Diageo, owners of the Guinness Brewery, for funding and support to capture their local stories and broadcast them as online podcasts during the Guinness 250 Celebrations.
30 people in all from Dublin based history groups, D8CEC, Nicholas of Myra, Dolphins Barn, Rialto and Bluebell took part in the creation of the digital media files with the help of media experts, Elevate Learning at the Digital Hub who provided the training and technical know-how to make it all happen.
Angela Smith of Diageo Ireland’s Corporate Social Responsibility team said: “Diageo were delighted to be asked to get involved with this exciting project which captures the rich heritage of the Guinness brewery in a new medium that has the ability to reach and be shared with millions of people all over the world, thanks to the wonders of the internet.”
A panel of 22 of the most influential figures in the digital sphere judged the awards, including Damian Mulley, Ronan Harris of Google and renowned DJ and MD of Digital Audio Productions, Dusty Rhodes.
