Salvation in the Hood: The Power of God, a new book by Philadelphia author Oz Artis, has been released by RoseDog Books.
From the author: "Let's analyze the terms 'salvation,' 'hood,' and 'the power of God':
"'Salvation' means to be delivered or the freedom from harm.
"'Hood' is a short phrase to express the word 'neighborhood.' It is a state, condition, or quality. The hood can mean a person's state of mind or position. The hood is not always describing a person or not having means or money to move forward. It is a mentality. There are people in the hood who have plenty of money and they live lavishly, but they have a hood mentality. People in the hood are under a covering; have low self-esteem; are helpless, hopeless, and depressed; and they have a forgotten vision.
"'The power of God' comes from God. It is the source by which God enables one to see the vision of one's future and give one authority to be successful.
"I feel this book is a part of the great commission. The call is to tell people of the love of God and that you can be forgiven of any sin. People need to know that God loves them with an everlasting love. This can be transforming (Jeremiah 29:11, Act 2:38-42).
"My name is Oz Artis. I live in the hood. The area in which I live is a very humble place. I've lived in the hood most of my life. I am a high school graduate. I worked for the school district of Philadelphia, PA, for ten years.
"I've always loved writing. I have written poems that have been made into music. They are being processed for publishing. I wrote my first book in 2007. I decided to further my knowledge of writing. What inspires me is my innate desire to write a book to show people they can change right where they are and it doesn't matter where they live, how much education they've had, or where they are economically. All things are possible with God!"
