This scholarship is intended to help individuals who exhibit exceptional potential fill in the skills gap and launch a career with long-term potential.

SetFocus (http://www.setfocus.com), a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner for Learning Solutions, announced today its new “Bridging the Gap” scholarship program (http://www.setfocus.com/marketing/setfocusbridgingthegapscholarship.aspx). The program will award three scholarships for its .NET Master’s Program to graduates of accredited colleges or universities who earn their Associate’s or Bachelor’s degrees between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010.
In keeping with its mission of “Bridging the Gap between Talent and Opportunity”, SetFocus established this scholarship to assist individuals who demonstrate a strong foundation of programming theory in gaining hands-on practical experience with the latest technology needed in the marketplace.
“We see a definite skills gap between what is taught in the classroom and what businesses want.” says Ananthalakshmi Chidambaram, SetFocus director of training. “Most schools focus more on theory than practical work. The technologies they teach may be well-established, but not necessarily driven by the current needs of the marketplace. This puts the student at a disadvantage when they enter the job market.”
“It can be very frustrating for someone trying to break into IT. Graduates are discovering that their academic program left them, in many ways, unequipped to take on software engineering roles in the corporate environment,” says Michael Simmons, president of SetFocus. “This scholarship is intended to help individuals who exhibit exceptional potential fill in the skills gap and launch a career with long-term potential.”
SetFocus, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner for Learning Solutions, has been training and placing IT professionals since 1997. Its trademark Master’s Program combines top-notch technical training and career coaching to enable IT professionals to fast track their careers. Since 1997, over 1500 candidates have successfully completed The Master’s Program and are working in positions such as .NET developer, software engineer, web developer and application consultant.
SetFocus will award three Bridging the Gap scholarships to its .NET Master’s Program -- one full scholarship of $20,000 and two partial scholarships of $10,000 each.
Scholarship applicants will be required to meet the qualifications for acceptance and to compete in a rigorous selection process. Deadline for applications is May 15, 2010. Scholarships will be awarded no later than June 30, 2010. The winners will have one year from the date of the award to enroll in the .NET Master’s Program.
