Boston, MA (PRWEB) March 5, 2010
SATA/Azores Express, Portugal’s second largest airline, announced today a major expansion of their service from Boston’s Logan International Airport to Portugal. This summer Azores Express, SATA’s U.S. tour operator, will offer the only direct flights to Lisbon, as well as expanded service to the Azores and the city of Porto.
According to SATA’s U.S. Manager, Nuno Puim. “Starting on April 10, we will offer a third direct flight each week to the city of Ponta Delgada on the Island of São Miguel. We have seen demand grow for our flights and air and hotel packages, to the Azores, Lisbon and Madeira.”
SATA/Azores Express will offer two new direct flights to Lisbon each week and daily direct flights to the Azores connecting on to Lisbon or Porto. SATA/Azores Express will also offer one flight each week to the Azores former capital, the island of Terceira. This expanded service includes a once-a-week flight to Terceira from Oakland, California.
Non-stop service to Lisbon will be on Wednesdays starting June 9 and Sundays starting July 25. Service to Lisbon with one stop in the Azores will be available Tuesday through Saturday by the end of June. Service from Boston to Porto with one stop in the Azores will be offered every Wednesday starting June 23.
The Azores are Europe's closest point to the United States, the chain of nine dramatic islands with volcanic mountains, seaside villages, black sand beaches and steaming geysers, all four hours from New England. Only Azores Express flies direct to the Azores from the United States.
Lisbon sits on the Tejo River along Portugal’s central Atlantic Coast. It is the country’s largest city with the added distinction of being the warmest and western-most capital in Europe. Hotels.com recently voted Lisbon as the most affordable capital city in Western Europe. Lisbon is also one of the closest European capitals to Boston, just a five and a half hour flight from Logan.
SATA/Azores Express has connected New England with the Azores and mainland Portugal for more than 20 years. The carrier is part of the SATA Group, which connects the Azores, an autonomous region of Portugal, with the world.
