MatchMySport.com Aims to Reduce Obesity Levels Through Sports Participation by Finding Sports Partners/Players/Teams

Sport can help reduce obesity levels in the UK. Overall physical activity has increased among both men and women since 1997, with 40% of men and 28% of women meeting the recommended levels in 2006 (at least 30 minutes of at least moderate intensity activity at least 5 times a week), compared with 32% and 21% respectively in 1997. MatchMySport (http://www.matchmysport.com) – a FREE sports website aims to connect to team players/sport partners/players with similar sporting abilities to play sport at a location and time that suits you encouraging people into sport and reducing obesity. MatchMySport recognises that finding a team mate or sports player can be difficult and MatchMySport's site aims to overcome these obstacles by finding a sports player/team mate in the same local area and with the same sporting ability and at a time that suits everyone.

Over two thirds of adults (66% of men and 69% of women) said they would like to do more physical activity.

In 2007, 24% of adults (aged 16 or over) in England were classified as obese (BMI 30 kg/m2 or over), an overall increase from 15% in 1993. In 2007, 17% of boy aged 2 to 15, and 16% of girls were classed as obese, (an increase from 11% and 12% respectively in 1995. In 2007, approximately a third of adults had not heard of the governments guidelines for physical activity (34% of men and 29% of women).

Simplifying the team management of football 5-a-side teams or other team sports, by giving people the ability to notify possible players of a new match and check on an automated acceptance on whos attending.    

MatchMySport has articles on promoting sport and making sport fun through the use of social networking.
