Randall Alley, CEO for biodesigns, featured in bonus content exclusive in the Blu-Ray version of Disney's "Surrogates."

Prosthetist Randall Alley, an expert in upper limb prosthetics and CEO for Southern California-based biodesigns inc., is featured in bonus content for the home entertainment release of the movie, “Surrogates,” starring Bruce Willis. “Surrogates,” from Walt Disney Studios, is a futuristic view of the world where humans use robots, via remote linkups, as their public selves.

The bonus content, “A More Perfect You: The Science of Surrogates,” is an exclusive feature on the Blu-ray version and presents a perspective on current robotic science and potential future developments.

Alley is joined by the film’s director Jonathan Mostow, members of the cast, Dr. James Canton, a futurist and the CEO of the Institute for Global Futures, and others. Recently Alley and Canton participated in a virtual round-table discussion with the film press on the present and future of surrogate technology. The round-table broadcast reached journalists in the United States and Mexico, Greece, Spain, Argentina, Germany, Austria, Australia, France, and the United Kingdom. “I think the area of prosthetic technologies is fascinating to the average person simply unaware of what we are working on and how far we have progressed,” Alley said.

Alley is CEO and chief prosthetist for biodesigns inc., (, an innovative and technology-driven prosthetics company specializing in the most advanced upper and lower limb patient care, rehabilitation, and product development. He is the creator of the patent-pending High-Fidelity Interface, the XFrame, and ACCI, three interfaces that brought advanced biomechanical principles to socket design. Alley also is working with DEKA Research as their prosthetic interface design consultant for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (DARPA) “Revolutionizing Prosthetics Project” chartered to develop the next generation upper limb prosthesis for the military, aka the “Luke Arm.”

Alley lives in Thousand Oaks, Calif., with his wife, Julie, and their two children.
