Houston firm TRACLabs, an industry leader in the fields of robotics, automation and artificial intelligence, has always been fortunate to have incredible expertise from both its dedicated employees and advisors. As company co-founder David Kortenkamp will tell you, it takes special people to accomplish what hasn’t been done before.
Most recently one of the company’s chief advisors and a member of the Board of Directors, Dr. Percy Pierre, was elected to the National Academy of Engineering, primarily for his work in managing major R&D weapons systems projects for the US Army. This distinguished honor is reserved only for the engineering profession’s most esteemed pioneers and leaders.
Currently Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan State University, Dr. Pierre has served on the Boards of major for profit and not for profit R&D corporations. He also served on the NASA Administrator’ Advisory Board. He has consulted on developments within the robotics and artificial intelligence fields for decades.
“When you are working with clients like NASA and the Department of Defense, you need to surround yourself with the smartest people and the best advisors you can find. We’ve been able to do that. There are very few companies that have access to experts like Dr. Pierre. He is a visionary. He sees things that have not been done before not as impossible but as challenging and viable. His knowledge and experience are so beneficial to us. His election to the National Academy of Engineering is recognition of his level of expertise. It’s the profession’s highest honor and Percy certainly deserves it,” Kortenkamp says.
Pierre’s impressive resume shows a lifetime of careers that span education, government, and the private sector. His academic career alone is impressive, and yet it represents just a segment of his accomplishments. In addition to Michigan State, he has been President of Prairie View A&M University and was the Dean of Engineering at Howard University. He also was Program Officer of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and the Assistant Secretary of the Army for research, development and acquisitions. His consultancy, Percy Pierre & Associates consults to business, government and education.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to work with Dr. Pierre. His contributions to our business have been invaluable in helping us move forward with our work. Our association with Percy Pierre and his work in the fields of Engineering is a huge benefit to the success of TRACLabs. We appreciate everything he brings to our firm,” Kortenkamp says.
Since 1994, TRACLabs has been a leader in robotics and automation, pioneering the science of Artificial Intelligence and robotics to advance development of sophisticated automation for government and industry. The company’s president and CEO, Dr. David Kortenkamp, recently co-authored a NASA Exploration Team report on the State of the Art in space robotics. Representatives of TRACLabs are available to discuss the specifics of their work in automation and robotics with representatives of the media. Photographs or other graphic depictions of their work are also available for use by media representatives.
