The 2009 National Gas Rodeo 2-Person Team Champions, Dana Underwood and Steve Holt of City Utilities of Springfield commemorated their win with identical Rodeo tattoos. The team is eager to compete again at the 2010 National Gas Rodeo, September 17-18 in Fairview Heights, IL.

Both the 2 and 4-Person teams from City Utilities made a pact between themselves that winning teams will get the tattoos. “The pact still stands for our 4-Person team, if they win at a future Rodeo, they get tattoos too,” says Steve Holt.

Holt says that it’s hard to describe what the Rodeo means to the team in only a few words. The National Gas Rodeo is a great motivator for the team to keep fit. “We started working out and we couldn’t believe how much better we felt after all the soreness was gone,” Holt says. They also appreciate the sense of pride they receive being recognized throughout City Utilities for their accomplishment. Holt goes on to say, “as family men who spend much of our time watching and cheering for our children in various sporting activities, participating in the Rodeo gives us the chance to compete and feel young again.”

“City Utilities of Springfield is a municipally-owned utility company, and for only the second time in the rodeo's history, a municipal team earned the right to display the traveling trophy,” Leonard Phillips, manager – natural gas distribution for City Utilities of Springfield adds. “We have sent teams to the last three rodeos, and we have always been impressed and inspired by the enthusiasm and spirit of teamwork that our employees have brought back to work after the events. Participating in the National Gas Rodeo has had a positive impact on those who have attended and competed, and reinforces the benefits of teamwork and safe work practices for these guys and their coworkers. Win or lose, competing in the Rodeo and networking with the other teams is an invaluable experience.”
