Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) March 11, 2010
Following a search among potential super-nannies, story-tellers and lovers of Planet Earth, The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte has selected its new, costumed Mother Nature.
The appointment comes on the heels of the hotel's recent opening and submission of its formal application to attain LEED® Gold (NC) certification this spring from the U.S. Green Building Council. Beginning with a formal introduction to the public on April 21, Mother Nature at The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte will play an important and highly public role for the hotel. The iconic new character will enliven the 146-room property's environmentally-minded features and services for young guests as well as the local community. From bringing eco-friendly toys and games to children staying at the hotel to providing them with story-telling, tuck-in service and the proverbial spoonful of organic sugar, Mother Nature will be a highly visible figure at the LEED-built property in Uptown. Mother Nature's job description also includes conducting environmental education experiences, local public appearances, hotel eco-tours, area recycling events and locally-based charitable programs.
Mother Nature's spectacular, environmentally-mindful uniform has been designed by acclaimed designer Adele Wechsler, celebrated internationally for her industry-leading eco-couture wedding gowns. Besides the highly-identifiable designer gown, tools of Mother Nature's trade are set to include a recycled green wagon in which the hotel's eco-friendly children's toys and games will be delivered to pint-sized guests, as well as individual boxes of organic animal crackers and small seedling containers for young guests to take home, plant and nurture. Additionally, a "green" version of the hotel's POLO ("Protect Our Little Ones") Kit will be introduced at the hotel, to include not only such toddler safety features as power outlet covers and tub spout blocks, but also an energy-preserving night light and eco-friendly children's bandages. Also for young guests, the hotel's Very Important Kids (VIK) program already incorporates post-consumer-waste recycled paper and crayons for children to use at check-in.
Mother Nature will follow her April 21 Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte press debut with a second Earth Week event, scheduled for April 23, the day after Earth Day. At the April 23 special event, Mother Nature will host several dozen local elementary school children and their chaperones for an organic lunch and environmental tour of The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte. Highlights of the tour will include a visit to the hotel's "green", energy-conserving roof, where several thousand sedum plants are complemented by a chef's rooftop garden grown for hotel culinary purposes, and by the hotel's two fully-contained bee hives, now under development to provide organic honey for the hotel.
